Anna University, Chennai, offers the two-year programme M.Sc. (Science and Technology Communication) through its Department of Media Sciences. Application forms can be downloaded from the university website: http://www.annauniv.edu/msc2year/ . The last date for downloading the application form from the website is March 16, 2012.
What is Science Communication?
Communication forms the core of several fields of activity. Science Communication is an interface between science and communication. It builds bridges and dialogues in societies on the issues of science. It plays a vital role in throwing light on the inventions of scientists to the common people. Science and technology organizations – be it research laboratories or corporate companies – need expertise in getting across their findings / technical information in the form of reports, video documentation, articles, press releases, etc. A good number of outsourced jobs such as technical editing and corporate e-learning involve communicating in simple English.
Facilities
The Department of Media Sciences has excellent multimedia laboratory facilities, and audio and video studios with the latest technology to offer hands-on training to students. The multimedia laboratory is equipped with the latest versions of 2D and 3D software.
Placement opportunities
Job opportunities include journalism, corporate communication, e-learning, and technical writing. The students are also employed as public relations personnel, event managers, animators for films, and a host of other jobs. Three batches have already passed out and the placement is cent percent with salaries ranging from Rs. 12,000 to Rs. 35,000 a month.
The total intake is 20 students. Eligibility for the degree programme is any bachelor degree holder with Physics and Chemistry at the Plus Two level. Sponsored candidates may also apply.
