Overview

CHANGING LANDSCAPE OF NEWS

In the last ten years, the news industry is changing rapidly. Internet is the major agent of change. The line between news and entertainment has slowly blurred. There is a rise of entertaining satirical news shows. News is present in various forms on social media. The traditional news outlets have reinvented themselves to stay alive in an increasing digital world. The Reuters Institute reports that consumers under the age of 35, use of social media and online sites is higher than the combined rates of TV, radio and newspaper for bringing news to the consumers. Therefore, it is imperative that news organisations adopt social media tools for news distribution and consumption. The tech-savvy generation looks for news on social media networks. The 24/7 cycle of information delivery has made participatory journalism and citizen journalism necessary. Certain issues regarding news has come to the forefront such as trust, credibility, misinformation, propaganda. The news industry is struggling to cope with these issues.
Some of the broad themes to be explored in this area are:-
  • Evolution of various forms of storytelling for news
  • Changing facets of News
  • News on Social Media
  • Fake News
  • Issues of trustworthiness
  • Propaganda and News
  • Any other related themes are also welcomed
